enTECH@home

The enTECH@home program provides older adults with free phone- or email-based technology support. Common challenges that our volunteers have resolved include:

  • Creating an email account

  • Connecting a printer

  • Using Microsoft word

As a volunteer with the enTECH@Home program, you will be sent a ‘ticket’ once or twice a month. You will be responsible for contacting the individual, via phone or email to provide the appropriate support. The support sessions usually last about 15 minutes. It is dependent on how complicated the issue is and how much experience the individual has with technology. The enTECH@Home volunteers will be split into two teams:

Technical Help

The Volunteers on the Technical Help Team will be assigned ‘tickets’ that are associated with technical issues. This can include:

  • Resetting a password

  • Connecting a printer

  • Trouble connecting WI-FI

Technology Coach

The Volunteers on the Technology Coach Team will be assigned ‘tickets’ where the individual is looking to learn a new technology-based skill. This can include:

  • How to use YouTube

  • How to use Email

  • How to use Microsoft Word

Outreach presentations

Over the last year, enTECH has partnered with many different organizations that work with older adults to provide presentations on technology. We have partnered with organizations including the City of Cambridge, the Kitchener Downtown Community Health center and CCCARE at the University of Waterloo. We have presented on topics including iPad basics, how to use social media, how to use Email, and much more! These presentations last about 30-45 minutes, and they have been very successful!
